Announcing the Scholarship Recipient

The Wakefield Concert Band proudly awarded its first annual scholarship to Max Niro, a talented student from South Kingstown High School. Max was recognized for his outstanding musicianship and dedication to music.

In addition to the band scholarship, Max also received the 2024 SKHS Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award, highlighting his exceptional skills and contributions to the school’s music program.  Max has been featured in the award-winning SKHS Pit Orchestra, and was a 2024 member of the URI Honor Band. In all of our SKHS groups, Max has served as principal trumpet and soloist, and has demonstrated the highest degree of musical achievement.

This new scholarship initiative by the Wakefield Concert Band aims to support and encourage young musicians in the community, fostering the next generation of talent. It reflects the band’s long-standing commitment to music education and community involvement since its formation in 1894.

Our community band thrives on the energy of new members, helping you grow as a musician while contributing to local events.

“I can’t begin to thank you enough for this amazing scholarship that you’ve given me. From the bottom of my heart, it means so much to have been chosen for something as special as this. If not for music, I would not be exposed to opportunities such as this, so I would also like to dedicate this brand new scholarship to the role that music has played in my life. Music is what gives me meaning to life. And I truly don’t ever want to lose that same level of appreciation as I grow up.” – Max Niro
